Where It All Began

Born during a season of isolation. Built to create connection.

Golden Years Seniors Association (GYSA) was born during the COVID-19 pandemic, a time when many older adults experienced increased isolation and fewer opportunities for meaningful connection.

I saw that need personally through my mother. She needed community — a place to connect, engage, and simply enjoy life alongside others.

As a registered nurse, I understood both the vulnerability of our senior population and the importance of creating opportunities for connection while taking appropriate measures to protect their health.

I approached the Rosenberg Civic Center with a vision for bringing seniors together. They said yes.

From the beginning, I made a commitment: whoever walked through our doors would be greeted with integrity, dignity, and respect.

One by one, they began to come. Friendships formed. Laughter returned. A community grew.

What began during a season of isolation became something much greater — a place where seniors are cherished, honored, connected, and reminded that they still have so much to contribute.

Today, GYSA continues that purpose through healthy aging, meaningful engagement, community outreach, resources, and fellowship.
